Having lymphoma: I want you to know
Presenting our new lived-experience film
Many people who receive a diagnosis of lymphoma have either not heard of it or recognise the name but don’t understand it. With this in mind, we aspired to produce a film that captures the real experience of having lymphoma, offering an insight into this complex disease. With thanks to Jacqueline, James, Jeff, Mez, Mollie and Sandra for sharing their experiences of symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, active monitoring and life beyond lymphoma
Introduction to lymphoma book: new edition now available
We’ve recently updated our Introduction to lymphoma book, which continues to be one of our most popular titles. It outlines key information for anyone who’s newly diagnosed, covering:
- what lymphoma is
- tests and scans
- lymphoma treatment
- living well, with and beyond lymphoma.
Using online AI overviews for health information
With the rise in use of search engine AI overviews, it is important to use trusted sources for health information.
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is growing rapidly. AI can be a powerful tool in providing healthcare, for example in improving efficiency or aiding diagnostics. AI overviews are now commonly displayed first by search engines like Google. They are a short summary of text created from many different internet sources that appears at the top of the results page. While they might be quick and convenient, how do we know we can trust the information provided?
Many organisations that provide health information have raised concerns about inaccurate and misleading content included in these AI overviews. The sources used to create the overview might be outdated, contain misinformation or not be inclusive.
"AI overviews can put inaccurate health information at the top of online searches, presenting a risk to people’s health.
Sophie Randall, Director of the Patient Information Forum
Lymphoma Action shares these concerns about the accuracy of the information contained in search engine AI overviews. In addition, the overviews don’t provide the necessary context for complex health information and can’t provide the additional support services offered by charities.
We are working with the Patient Information Forum (PIF), the independent voice of UK health information, and other health charities, to highlight these potential risks, and to lobby for improvement. Awareness is key, and we urge you to look beyond search engine AI overviews to find and access trustworthy, evidence- based and up-to-date information and support.
How can you find trustworthy information and support?
Your medical team can give you the most detailed and accurate information about your health. They can advise you based on your specific situation, and can signpost you to trusted sources like the NHS or a credible health charity. Look out for the PIF TICK logo when searching.
